Tahini Delight: Unwrapping the Magic of a Puff Pastry Christmas Tree

Updated: Feb 26

‘Tis the season for indulgence and enchantment, and what better way to usher in the Yuletide joy than with a delightful, edible Christmas tree! This festive puff pastry creation not only dazzles the eyes but also delights the taste buds with the unique flavours of Mediterranean Tahini. Let’s embark on a culinary adventure that turns a simple puff pastry into a work of art fit for the merriest of celebrations.

Ingredients:

- 1/4 cup Mediterranean Tahini with cocoa spread

- 1/4 cup Mediterranean Tahini with pomegranate and cranberries spread

- 1 package frozen puff pastry, thawed but still cold

- 1 tbsp Demerara sugar

- 1 egg beaten

- Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Magic: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F, setting the stage for the culinary magic about to unfold.

  2. Puff and Unfold: On a pan, lay down parchment paper and unfold one sheet of puff pastry. Gently roll it out to create a larger surface area. The puff pastry, like a blank canvas, eagerly awaits the transformation.

  3. Spread the Joy: With festive flair, spread the Mediterranean Tahini with cocoa on one half and the Tahini with pomegranate and cranberries on the other. Careful not to venture too close to the edges—leave a little room for the enchantment to rise.

  4. Double the Delight: Unfold the second sheet of puff pastry and lay it gently over the first, creating a delectable sandwich of Tahini goodness.

  5. Slice and Shape: With the precision of a holiday maestro, use a pizza cutter to slice the pastry into a triangle—your canvas for a Christmas tree masterpiece. Cut out additional shapes with cookie cutters, because what's a tree without some twinkling stars?

  6. Twist and Shout: Beginning at one side, make horizontal slices into the sides of the Christmas tree triangle, leaving a gap in the middle. Repeat on the other side, creating the illusion of branches. Twist each branch for a touch of whimsy.

  7. Top It Off: Crown your creation with a pastry star at the tree's peak and scatter the rest down the center. It's the finishing touch that brings the magic to life.

  8. Golden Glow: Brush the entire pastry with a beaten egg, adding a sprinkle of Demerara sugar for a golden crunch. Optional, but oh-so-tempting.

  9. Bake the Magic: Into the preheated oven it goes, baking for about 20 minutes until puffed and gloriously golden.

  10. Powdered Perfection: Let your masterpiece cool slightly before sprinkling powdered sugar over the top, like a dusting of winter's enchantment.

  11. Celebrate and Share: Gather your loved ones and revel in the joy of the season. Share this edible masterpiece and savour the magic it brings to your Christmas Eve celebration.

May your holiday be merry, bright, and full of delightful Tahini surprises!
